Marie Laveau veve silver necklace. Engraved handmade ring to honor the culture. Marie Catherine Laveau (September 10, 1801 – June 15, 1881)was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo, herbalist, and midwife who was renowned in New Orleans. She, and her daughter later, also practiced rootwork, conjure, Native American and African spiritualism as well as Louisiana Voodoo. Hoodoo, in addition to being a body of botanical and esoteric knowledge, is a rebellion against mental and spiritual domination by the Colonial powers. It is a genesis of folk practices derived from an admixture of African spiritual practice, Christian folk cunning, and Native American herbal knowledge. It is also described as being a counter-culture of the down-trodden and the underdog.
