The “AUM” symbol (or OM – the symbol in the center) symbolizes the Universe and the ultimate reality. It is the most important Hindu symbols. At the dawn of creation, from emptiness first emerged a syllable consisting of three letters – A-U-M (often written as OM).
Yogis often meditate on the four "measures," or parts, of om. Though commonly spelled om, the mantra actually consists of three letters, a,u, and m. (In Sanskrit, whenever an initial a is followed by a u, they coalesce into a long o sound.
OM is also the most important seed mantra (or in Sanskrit bija mantra), which resonates the most with the energy of our 7th chakra (crown chakra). OM is the sound that resonates within the cosmos and is a representation of the creator.
